Give Your Scrap Paper To Help Child To Camp The Catholic Men’s Club of St. Eugene’s Church of Wendell has begun a paper drive in the towns of Zebulon and Wendell. Tom Monk, who is heading the drive in Zebulon, said: “The pur pose of the drive is to raise funds to send underprivileged children of the parish to summer camp.” Monk revealed there are 20 children in the parish who are eli gible to attend a one-week summer camp in Hendersonville. He also added that this is the first venture of the Men’s Club to sponsor such a program for the underprivileged children. “A plea is made for all to con tribute papers, cardboard boxes, magazines and other cartons of paper to aid these needy children,’’ Monk said. Persons who have articles to contribute are asked to call Frank Kannon, lelephone AN 9-3861, or Tom Monk, telephone AN 9-2571, and pick-ups will be made. “It is a painless way to get rid of the papers which collect so rapidly about the house,” Monk said. Mr. and Mrs. Bernice Bunn have been com mended by the Zebulon Recreation Commission for provid ing and making available facili ties where the teenagers of the town and community may enjoy a wholesome recreational program. The commendation was present ed to the civic minded couple on March 13. It reads in part: “Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Bunn by their unselfish act of providing and making available the facilities of Bunn Recreation Cen ter to the community, without charge, each Saturday evening for the purpose of furnishing quarters for a recreational program for the youth; and “Whereas, mV. and Mrs. Bunn have shown their readiness to co operate with the Zebulon Recrea tion Commission in agreeing to the said Commission assuming span s' rship of this phase of the rec reational program in their build ing; and “Whereas, they have fully dem onstrated their civic-mindedness in Laving taken the initiative in establishing such fine facilities as a meeting place for our youth; “The officers and member of the Zebulon Recreation Commission do now commend Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Bunn for their dedication to civic advancement and thereto we ex press our sincere appreciation.” The Center was begun in the lat ter part of 1956. It was not orig inally planned as a recreation and social center by Mr. and Mrs. Bunn. They planned to use it themselves when an occasion for entertaining demanded it. But many people who saw the Center under construction, espe cially the ministers of the Baptist and Methodist churches, urged Mr. and Mrs. Bunn to let the youth of the town and community use it. “Realizing the prominence of juvenile delinquency, I felt like if we could keep some boy or girl away from trouble it would be worth all the money that could be put in it,” Bunn said. “If properly handled and if properly accepted by the children it might mean the saving of my life or somebody else’s because of some hoodlum or punk.” Both Mr. and Mrs. Bunn have a great love for children, and are constantly seeking to show them the right way. They are aware of the many dangers that face the present generation and want to aid them to hurdle the pitfalls.
